With the rapid adoption of AI in U.S. government services, especially via public-private partnerships, there is a need for transparency and accountability in AI procurement. Despite guidelines for responsible AI adoption in the public sector, significant gaps remain in regards to consistent implementation and public access to information. To address this, the US Responsible AI Procurement Index leverages publicly available policies from federal agencies along with open procurement data platforms (USAspending, Federal AI Use Case Inventories) to scrutinize AI procurement practices within the U.S. government. It evaluates responsible AI practices across 15 federal departments using 22 qualitative and quantitative indicators. The goal is to highlight where government reporting falls short and to advocate for greater transparency in AI procurement.
